Perfect Weekend in Vilnius – What to See and Do?

Although the city is quite small, there are many things to see in Vilnius. Best way to get familiar with the city is to take a walk. You can start your journey from the Town Hall Square, Visit Gedaminas Tower, Old Town and then finally get to the most hipster part of the city – Republic of Uzupis.

Vilnius Town Hall Square

Vilnius Town Hall Square is a public space in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is located in the heart of the city and surrounded by several buildings, including the Vilnius City Hall and Cathedral of St. John. This square is a unique architectural masterpiece with its neo-renaissance style and its rich history. It is also known for hosting many events, concerts and celebrations throughout the year.

The Vilnius Town Hall Square is one of the most important historical sites in Vilnius. It was built during a period when Lithuania was under Polish rule and became a symbol of Lithuanian nationhood after it was liberated from Poland.

Vilnius Old Town

Vilnius Old Town is a historic area of Vilnius, Lithuania. It is the largest and best-preserved historical center in Lithuania.

Vilnius is a city of contrasts, which is reflected in its architecture. Vilnius Old Town is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Lithuania. It has a rich history and cultural heritage, with many buildings dating back to the 15th century.

The Old town, alongside the Cathedral Square and Gedaminas Tower, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city.

Stikliu Gatve

Stikliu Gatve used to be the heartbeat for the city’s Jewish Quarter. The history of Lithuania has been influenced heavily by the Jews since the 14th century. On the invitation of Grand Duke Gediminas (11316-41), 3000 Jews settled in Vilnius. The street was once lined with glassblowers’ workshops. However, after Nazi Germany occupied Lithuania, this area was transformed into a ghetto and many of the Jews were sent to death camps.

Nowadays the area still serves as one of the central streets in Old Town. On the Southern End of the street, you can see the plaque that is describing the history of Jewish people in the city, as well as the map of former Ghetto.

Republic of Uzupis

Republic of Uzupis is one of the coolest areas of Vilnius. This area was home to some of the city’s poorest residents many years ago. These residents were mostly labourers and Jewish migrants. Unfortunately, many of them were sent to concentration camps during Nazi occupation.

For many years this was the worst neighborhood of the city, until 1990, when several artists moved to this part of the city and declared it as a republic. Since then, the neighborhood became the shelter for artists and hipsters. It is funny, but much like Christiania in Copenhagen, Uzupis also has its own flag and entry stamps. However, you don’t have to worry. Republic of Uzupis is very friendly location and as long as you have your ETIAS visa obtained, you will be admitted by the border control officer, who also happens to be a cashier at the souvenir shop.

Vilnius is one of the best cities in Europe. With its beautiful cityscape and different sightseeing it makes one of the best destinations for those who want affordable holidays. Three days is quite enough to go around this magnificent city and enjoy the perfect weekend in Vilnius. We hope that this article will help you a lot in your planning and you will get some of the most tender and ever-lasting memories from your trip.
