Must-do adventure activities in Armenia

In total, Armenia has no more than 50 cities, among which the leading positions in the ranking in terms of size, population and activity are occupied by Yerevan, Gyumri and Sevan. They are also the main cultural centers of the country, which must be visited in the first place: here, along with an active modern life, the oldest cultural monuments and the oldest traditions are intertwined, which are visible in almost everything.

You definitely need a cheap rent a car in Yerevan to help you because car hire in Yerevan is a must-do thing before starting a trip. So rent car Yerevan is a top priority.

Yerevan.

One way or another, not a single tourist will be able to pass this city by, if only because all planes arrive at the capital’s airport. Yerevan is not only the capital of Armenia, but also one of the most ancient cities that exists today. The date of its foundation is 782 BC! It is not surprising that throughout its life the city has settled down with many sights, which are associated with a huge number of myths and legends.

All the sights of the city can be conditionally divided into two parts:

Monuments of culture that appeared in the 20th century;

The oldest cultural monuments that have survived to this day.

The first category includes:

  • Ballet and Opera Theater;
  • Freedom Square;
  • Bridge of Victory;
  • Republic Square;
  • National Historical Museum.

The “ancient” category includes:

  • Erebuni Fortress;
  • Ruins of Zvartnots;
  • Church of Surb Zoravor Astvatsatsin.

In addition, tourists who do not want to spend time only in the city can go on a sightseeing tour of the outskirts of Yerevan, which may include, for example, a visit to the world-famous Geghard Monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Gyumri.

A small town in comparison with Yerevan, which became famous not only for the presence of a Russian military base on its territory, but also for active excursion activities. Crowds of tourists come here every year in order to comfortably spend time and plunge into the atmosphere of mystery and antiquity.

The main attractions of Gyumri:

  • Central Park;
  • Museum of National Architecture;
  • The museum is the house of Mkrtchyan.

And of course, a cultural monument that occupies a separate niche in the history of the country is the Black Fortress bastion. This outpost of the 19th century is considered a symbol of the defense of Transcaucasia from attacks by the Turks.

Sevan.

Armenians are not particularly worried about the fact that their country does not have its own access to the sea, because they have such an amazing place as Sevan. Sevan is not only a lake, but also a city that settled in close proximity to it.

Lake Sevan is surprising if only because 10 beach areas have settled at an altitude of almost 2000 m above sea level! What other city can boast such a miracle of nature? There are few sights and cultural monuments here, but this does not make Sevan less popular. Every year, crowds of tourists come to sunbathe in the sun. And enjoy the amazing panoramas that open from the height of the Seven beaches.

In addition to a beach holiday, fishing and diving are popular in this area, and among the attractions that deserve attention are:

  • Cemetery of Noratus;
  • Vanevan Necropolis;
  • Sevanavank Monastery (in honor of which, according to one of the legends, Lake Sevan was named).

On the last day of August, Armenians celebrate Lake Sevan Day. Once in Armenia during this period, you can visit a variety of events, see the performance of local singing and dancing groups performing national works.
