CIOB Chartered Fellow Application Process
The grade of Fellowship is the highest award that CIOB offers. Those with this grade are amongst the most knowledgeable and experienced professionals in the construction industry. Moreover, this status allows them to have global recognition for their skills and attainments throughout their careers.
Besides that, the related post-nominal, FCIOB, is in high demand. Entry to Fellowship is focused on satisfying a unique set of leadership competencies and behavior at a strategic level. In short, it must reflect the highest level of professional competence.
This designation is equivalent to a Master’s degree level and is benchmarked at Level 7 by ENIC.
You can apply for Fellowship if you are a senior professional with more than 5 years of experience. This experience has to be in leading an organization, leading people and contributing to the industry, communities and/or society.
Attaining CIOB Fellowship will allow you to enjoy the benefits of a Chartered Membership. In addition, you will get additional rewards like employment achievement recognition, career progress and promotion. You will also get some other benefits like a higher salary and a broader range of job opportunities.
When you retire, you can apply for the Retired Grade. On the acceptance of your application, you can use the new designation Ret FCIOB.
CIOB Fellowship application process:
If applying to upgrade from MCIOB, you need to produce a 3000-word reflective account of a project or initiative you have led. Doing this will allow you to demonstrate your competence in leading people and organizations within the sector.
If applying directly for Fellowship, produce an additional 3000-word report. This report should be based on a project or initiative you have led. The report will allow you to demonstrate your fulfillment of the standards of the CIOB professional review for MCIOB.
You need to attend a professional discussion called a viva voce exam. This discussion will for nearly 1.5 hours. Trained professionals (2 assessors and 1 chair) will conduct this exam. The discussion will be about your written project. Aside from that, it will be based on an interactive discussion about a topical issue affecting the industry.
Before you move further with your written application, the authority will ask you to attend a workshop in its London or Bracknell Office. If you can’t attend in person, you can attend via Skype to go through the whole Fellowship process.
The assessment authority will charge you £155 to attend this workshop. After that, this fee will have a deduction from the £700 Fellowship Assessment fee when you submit your final application.
Requirements:
For CIOB Fellowship, you need to have at least 5 years of experience. The experience should be in leading an organization, people and paying contributions to the industry, communities or society.
In addition, you need to have responsibilities extending to working with sector stakeholders. Using this work, you need to demonstrate a contribution to the broader industry or the general public. This work could be through industry-specific charities like the Construction Youth Trust. Or, it could be through the CIOB or other stakeholders like universities, schools, communities and community groups. In addition, it could also be using government agencies.
The designation is independently benchmarked and equivalent to a British Master’s Degree. This work must be carried out by the expert qualifications agency, UK ENIC. The agency must offer information about qualifications to government authorities and education establishments all over the world.
